EA und Maxis feiern das 25-jährige Jubiläum von The Sims mit einer großartigen Überraschung. The Sims 1 und The Sims 2 sind nun erneut über zwei separate Legacy Collections für PC erhältlich, und zusammen als The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.

Heute bestätigte EA die Veröffentlichung von The Sims: Legacy Collection und The Sims 2: Legacy Collection für PC. Jede Spielcollection wird einzeln verkauft oder gemeinsam für insgesamt 40 US-Dollar im Rahmen des 25th Birthday Bundles.

Beide Sammlungen enthalten jede Erweiterung und fast jedes Stuff-Pack. Die einzige bekannte Ausnahme ist, dass die The Sims 2-Sammlung das IKEA Home Stuff-Pack aus dem Jahr 2008 nicht enthält. Abgesehen davon ist sämtlicher Inhalt enthalten. Tatsächlich beinhalten beide Sammlungen Bonusmaterial: The Sims 1 enthält einen Throwback Fit Kit, während The Sims 2 zusätzlich zu seinen bestehenden Erweiterungen einen Grunge Revival Kit hinzufügt.

PlayEAs Wiederveröffentlichung dieser ersten beiden Spiele macht sie erstmals seit über zehn Jahren weit zugänglich. The Sims 1 wurde ursprünglich ausschließlich als Disc-Version veröffentlicht, sodass das Spiel, sofern Spieler keine alte physische Kopie finden und auf modernem Windows ausführen konnten, praktisch nicht verfügbar war – besonders mit allen Erweiterungen. The Sims 2 wurde 2014 kurzzeitig als Ultimate Collection auf Origin angeboten, diese Version wurde jedoch später entfernt. Wer sie damals nicht erworben hatte, fand The Sims 2 ohne alte Disc ebenfalls schwer. Mit diesen neuen Sammlungen sind nun alle vier Haupttitel der Sims-Reihe leicht über digitale Stores zu erwerben und zu spielen.

Als wir sie erstmals besprachen, erhielt The Sims 1 eine Bewertung von 9,5/10 und The Sims 2 eine von 8,5/10. Obwohl die Serie seitdem viele neue Funktionen hinzugefügt und rauhe Kanten geglättet hat, sind diese originären Spiele wegen ihrer bezaubernden Unvernunft, einfacheren Spielmechanik, größerer Herausforderung und wichtigen Vermächtnis weiterhin eine lohnende Wiederaufnahme.
