This app is a key component of a museum exhibit exploring Aldo Rossi's visionary concept, The Analogous City.
The application forms part of an immersive museum installation dedicated to The Analogous City—an iconic 1976 architectural artwork by Aldo Rossi, Eraldo Consolascio, Bruno Reichlin, and Fabio Reinhart, originally presented at the Venice Biennale of Architecture. Using augmented reality technology, the app complements physical reproductions of The Analogous City (available at http://archizoom.epfl.ch) by digitally overlaying comprehensive reference materials across multiple interactive layers above the artwork.
This digital tool enables visitor interaction with the installation featured in the exhibition Aldo Rossi - The Poet's Window: Prints 1973-1997, showcased at Bonnefanten Museum (Maastricht), Archizoom EPFL (Lausanne), and GAMeC (Bergamo).
Through purchasing Archizoom's printed map reproduction of The Analogous City, users can recreate the museum installation experience anytime, anywhere. The map includes original texts by Aldo Rossi, Fabio Reinhart, and Dario Rodighiero.
Originally conceived as an authentic urban planning proposal, The Analogous City (La Città Analoga) incorporates diverse historical elements: Giovanni Battista Caporali's Vitruvian City (1536), Galileo Galilei's Pleiades constellation sketch (1610), Tanzio da Varallo's David and Goliath painting (c. 1625), Francesco Borromini's San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane plans (1638-1641), the Dufour topographic map (1864), Le Corbusier's Notre Dame du Haut chapel design (1954), alongside architectural projects by Rossi and his collaborators.
"Existing between past and present, reality and imagination, the analogous city may simply represent the urban environment we design daily—confronting challenges with the conviction that continual improvement remains possible." — Aldo Rossi on The Analogous City, Lotus International n.13 (1976)
