The Digital Revolution of Devarattam
This app was created as part of my initiative, "The Digital Revolution of Devarattam." It honors Kalaimamani
Mr. M. Kumararaman, a retired teacher, Kalaimani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti, who have been honored with the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards, respectively, for their contributions to Devarattam. I dedicate this application to these respected legends, my Guru Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and all the beloved legends of Devarattam. I created the Devarattam app primarily to promote Devarattam and highlight its awardees. The app details the art form and its honored artists. Devarattam is a folk dance from Tamil Nadu. Historically and today, it is performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. Devarattam consists of 32 to 72 dance steps, with 32 as the foundational steps; the others are variations built upon these basics.
Devarattam dancers hold a kerchief in each hand, wear Salangai (ankle bells) on each leg, and perform to the rhythm of a traditional percussion instrument called the Deva Thunthumi.
